With the support of the CSC Youth Build members, we were able to assist Kathy Shikora in repairing and building a new ramp and enclosed deck for her manufactured home in Tangent.

 Marty and Sarah

Though it has been a lengthy wait, Albany Area Habitat is excited to finally be able to help Marty and Sarah literally keep the roof over their heads.

Marty, 71 and Sarah, 66 have lived in their Albany home for nearly 15 years.  Together for the last 48 years they have always tried to keep active and maintain their property; however living on a fixed income has put many critical home repairs out of their reach.  Specifically, their ageing roof was starting to leak.  In 2014, Marty was referred to Habitat’s home repair program by Senior and Disability Services; however Marty and Sarah would have to wait three more years before Habitat found the resources to install a new roof.

Not to be discouraged, Marty and Sarah continued to be active volunteers for Habitat, as they had for the last 12 years.  In 2005, Marty started at the ReStore helping to receive and sort donations; Sarah joined this effort in 2010, volunteering to help maintain the property outside the store, as, according to her, she would “rather be outside than in the kitchen.” Marty joined in this effort and for the last 7 years they have supported Habitat’s mission by mowing, trimming trees, and weeding the ReStore property.
